Prompts that direct the shot

  • 01

    Subject and action

Say who or what is in the scene and what they do; one clear action per clip works best.

  • 02

    Camera language

Dolly, pan, tilt, orbit, drone and handheld shots are all understood.

  • 03

    Light and mood

Golden hour, neon night or soft studio light set the atmosphere.

  • 04

    Sound cues

With Seedance 2.5, name the sounds and the clip is generated with matching audio.

How to write a text to video prompt

Think of the prompt as one line of a shot list. The model has only a few seconds to tell the story, so give it one subject, one action and one camera move.

A reliable order is subject, action, setting, light, camera and sound. For example: “A red kite dancing over a green hill, a child running below it, late afternoon sun, low-angle tracking shot, wind and laughter.”

  • Subject: who or what the shot is about
  • Action: what happens during the clip
  • Setting: place, weather and time of day
  • Light and mood: golden hour, neon, overcast
  • Camera: dolly-in, pan, orbit, drone, handheld
  • Sound, with Seedance 2.5: ambience, effects or music

Text to video or image to video?

Use text to video when you have no footage and want the model to design the whole shot. When the look must match a specific photo, character or product, start from that image instead: image to video keeps the first frame exactly as you uploaded it.

Text to video FAQ

Is this text to video AI free?

Signing up is free. Each clip uses purchased credits, paid per second from 80 credits with Seedance 2.0 Fast (400 for 5 seconds).

What is an AI text to video generator?

It is a tool that creates a video clip from a written description. You describe the scene and the camera, and a video model, here Seedance, generates the shot.

How long should my prompt be?

One to three sentences is plenty. Lead with the subject and action, then add setting, light, camera and sound.

Can Seedance put text or logos in the video?

It can try, but short words work best. For exact branding, start from an image that already contains the logo.

Which model should I use?

Draft with Seedance 2.0 Fast, then render the version you like with Seedance 2.5 for sound, up to 15 seconds and 1080p.
